for one, if you buy an exhaust are you almost ALWAYS going to need to weld for leaks and such!?

and on my stock air box(part that holds filter) would it be wise to cut the box more, on top and side to allow for more air?

Not exactly sure when ur referring to on the exhaust but as for the air box, Ive tried everything to the stock one and the only thing that works is a k&n filter drop in or a cai. Nothing else does.

I found one for $48, is that good for a K&N?...not going to spend $$ on a complete CAI, right now.

When putting on an exhaust will band clamps (and u-clamps)seal it well enough or is it inevitable that you'll have to weld an X-pipe at either end.

Don't get it, my GT came with that exact same set up and the damn thing allows so much dirt to get into the airline that the MAF was misreading the airflow and was causing my eninge to act very weird, once I replaced it with a real cai and cleaned the MAF the problem was fixed.

Oh, yes it's a very good idea to weld exhaust systems into place.
