Default Making a Sub box

So, my friend came to me and told me he needed some subs, and i told him where to go to find em for pretty cheap, and i offered to make a box for him for less than what it would cost to buy one off of someone else, kuz i figured it would be good money, now ive seen em made on TV and im not an idiot, i can pretty much picture how their made, some plywood and some fabric etc., nothin to hard, but i want it to look top notch so i can maybe make a reputation for myself kuz sound systems are alot more important at my school than engine mods... soo what i was thinkin was i make a shell for him, but i dont have any plexi glass so i was figurin to make one where the speakers have plywood coverin the front with holes cut for the speakers to show, maybe some sub lights around the speakers them self... Anyhere have a smiliar set up so i can get a better picture in my mind? Also should i go out and buy a felt or some other fabric or should i just use the Vinyl i have laying around my garage? Any ideas are appriciated.

Don't use plywood, it will vibrate like a sumabitch. Used 3/4" MDF board and spray sound deadner inside of it. If you use plexi, same thing. 3/4" plexi. As for the fabric, that is totaly up to you. When did mine I found carpet that matched the carpet of the car and used it.

Does any hardware store sell this 3/4" MDF board? Also the plywood i have isnt flimsy its about 1/2 inch thick and pretty heavy, it was used to build my addition to my house. I was thinking of going with a look like this:: Sub set up only facing the trunk.

yeah take it from me..... seeming since i own that system.... xcept i got alpine type r's now instead but.... those are 3/4" mdf and the front piece is one part, then you need to find the angle that it sits at.... because the seat is not a full 90degrees if i remember right its something like 79 11 off of 90 and then make the box to go flush up with it.

P.s. Im glad you like it

Dont forget . . if your putting in more then 2 subs make big enough ports for air so that stuff wont lite his car on fire.

you may have to go to a lumber yard for 3/4 MDF, lowes and HD around here only carry 1/2"

1/2" plywood is going to vibrate like no tomorrow. [:'(]

+1 on 3/4 MDF I've done about 10 or so stereo installs for people I know, and it's not that hard just take your time and make sure your measurements are right before you cut (espeicially angles) and be careful cutting the holes. then I usually seal the box with some good quality caulk. I don't usually put ports in but I've never done more than two subs with medium rms watts. Higher watts or more than two subs and you'll probably want to make a ported box. the system in my car was carried over from my blazer so it doesn't look too pretty but it works good, I'll try to remember to take some pictures soon. If you have any questions you can pm me.

ok MDF board it is, and the caulk sounds good, got plenty of that. As for the amount of subs, probably only 2. But like i said im not doing a rear seat im doing a trunk, so i have to compensate for those tiny 05 tunks. also in the 05, theres some weird like hump in the far back of the trunk near the seat, any ideas on what to do? Should i build it so its infront of this hump or should i make it so the bottom will hug it? Also, how should i fasten it to the car so it doesnt slide around?
