Default Dash Beeping!

I have a 1996 V6 Mustang, and basically - I have this beeping coming from somwhere inside the dash it seems (as if behind the middle A/C ducts). It beeps about 4 times I think and does a few rounds and stops ... but will eventually do it again later on in a drive (it seems timed - once at start and then timed from there).

It's a used car so I really don't know how to go about identifying this obnoxious beeping. Any ideas?

A few notes: This started BEFORE major work was done on the car. I thought it was related to the overheating problem (which we have subsequently fixed by replacing gaskets and milling the heads ect...) but we just finished all that work and fired up the car the other day and the beep is still there.

Thanks!

Ok, just to clarify/shorten my question:

*Beep seemingly originating from dash area (as if behind air ducts in the middle)
*Beeps 5 pulses about 2-3 reps and then stops, but will do it again after like 20-30 minutes.

Any ideas on what this is and how to erradicate whatever is causing it?

The beeping is actually the control module for your supplemental restraint system. When you turn the key on you should have an air bag lamp illuminate for a few seconds. If you don't, remove the instrument cluster and see if the bulb is burned out, or missing. That will cause the beep.
