Default Engine Swap?

okay first of all i dont really know where to post so this seems like the best place.

anyway i have a 2001 mustang convertible and i am hopefully going to swap the engine with that of a 2001 cobra (the non-supercharged ones). first of all i was wondering if this is even possible as i cant find sufficent info on the subject. and second of all i was wondering where i could find a reasonably priced engine with close to 0 miles as possible short of buying a new cobra.

thank you for you feedback.

Yes it is possiblea friend of mine bought one for his 99' V6, he went to MVP Performance in GA and got the engine installed with the tranny, 6 speed coversion and everything for about $11,000. I'm not sure where you live but you can also find alot of engines on Ebay. I've seen some 2003 mach 1 engines with 50 miles or less on them for about 5 grand.

Sell your car and actually buy the 01 Cobra. Your car resale value is going to go down the drain if you do something like that. You will be spending the same if not more doing a swap as if you just traded in your car.

He wasnt asking about a 03 Cobra engine he was asking about a 01 Cobra engine.

It can be done but you will need:

Upgraded Suspension
8.8 Rear End
Cobras Computer
The Actual Engine
The transmission (T-45 I believe)

Thats just off the top of my head things you will need. I am sure there are alot more I will think about and add

dont get an 01 cobra engine, the 03 is better. hints the most power out of any of the cobra engines. Get the 03 because it has an iron block with aluminum heads and so on. but it is also supercharged. then later if you want you can get new internals and push more boost.

the 03 cobra engine is rumored to be able to make 1000 rwhp on the stock internals. just buy a used 03 cobra.

Are the stock internals on the 03/04 Cobra engines forged?

Your engine is only as strong as it's weakest link. If you balance and tune the engine correctly, then it'll last long for many years to come.
