Default Stroker question

I was looking at SSM's site, and I had a few questions.

I know getting your engine stroked means you increase the size of the stroke (piston movement, correct), thus increasing the power. How exactly would I go about stroking my 3.9L to a 4.2L? Would I need a new block or something? Or just a 4.2L crankshaft so the pistons move farther up and down?

Also, if I were to stroke to a 4.2, would 3.8L and 3.9L parts still fit? Say UDP's, or even a powerpak or a turbo made for a 3.8L? Or would I have to get special parts for the 4.2?

Basically I'm just looking for a good explanation of what exactly stroking is and how worth it it is on a 3.9L split port.

i would assume the 4.2 stroker would fit right into our block because it doesnt say anything about needing a new block for these parts to fit

Well can anyone with pretty good knowledge just explain exactly what a stroker kit is/does?

you pretty much got it man. it increses the stroke of the piston creating a bigger combustion chamber. you dont need a new block. you use the stock block. almost all parts should still fit it, the stroker is all internal stuff. if you have a lot of detailed questions i would just talk to ssm.

All of SSMs stuff for the Essex will work with each other. The only thing you would want to worry about is if you got new heads, making sure you have the right type of piston for the application. Other than that, all a stroker kit is would be new rods/crank/pushrods, etc. Go for it, get it on a dyno

The stoker "kit" would include shorter rods, larger crank and pistons with more of a dish. That is unless you know what you are doing and would like to calculate all 3 compression ratios and rod length, etc.

You don't need a new block, instead your current block has to be pulled, stripped down, bored out, cleaned, maybe a fixer upper hear or there, and then reassembled with the stroker kit. Then intakes will fit just fine, as none of the bolting paterns change, but as stated earlier, the heads are the only thing you really need to worry about.

So say I ended up stroking to a 4.2, but still wanted a powerpak. I would just get the 97+ F-150 4.2 powerpak, so the heads fit, right? And everything else from UDP's to a turbo will still work?
