why my car will not launch
ok fellas here is a quick question, i have a 2000 3.8 auto. Whenever i am casually driving 40-45 mph etc. i sometimes feel the need to stomp the gas only to find out that my car does not launch. now sometimes it will, and sometimes it wont. why is that?? any advice is appreciated. do the rpms have to be somewhere before i step on it?
yeah bro i use to do that all the time but my friend blew his transmission out of his chevrolet Z71 by doing that. atleast thats what he said, so is that not bad for your transmission??
biggest problem is that you have an auto. dont worry, you'r not the only one with an auto.
. IF you floor it completely and it only shifts down to 3, if at all, then it could be that the TPS didnt register the full throttle and you may need to adjust the pedal to have more clearance to the floor and raise the pedal. Otherwise, I use the D-2 method sometimes and at 40-45 its usually ok cuz thats about where first gear ends. Just dont do it TOO often.

ofcoarse you have to realize you have to realize that it's a four speed... the gears can be wound out much logner... where as in a manual 5 speed with a powerfull engine,it may be low third... but in like a small car 45 would be almost 5th gear.... it's all about the gear ratio...
But it should be fine in second at 40 ish... it will rev it high... but it will give you the pick up you want... just not too much... these cars arn't ricers they can't be reved high... they are made to be driven with some skill...
