I have a friend with a 1999 v6 auto trans that just called me. They say that while driving along for no apparant reason it will try to downshift....that's all the info I have at the moment. Do you know of any known issues like this? Let me know what additional info you might need and I'll try to get that the next time we talk.

The manual lever position sensor on the side of the tranny has been know to fail. It used to drive the tranny shop guys nuts trying to figure it out.
Mine went and did the same thing. Down shift from 4-3 or 3-2, with no input from me.

Not hard to change, but the tranny may have to be lowered a bit to get to it. and there is a special tool to posistion the new one. (the two attach holes are slotted for adjustability.)
