Default engine problems

Most of the time when i start my engine, before i even put it in drive it sputters and wants to die on me, it will drop to 300 rpm. I try to rev it up, but it wont let me, it just sputters and feels dead. Then when i put it in drive or reverse it has a mind of it own and even on the brake, drives lol... any ideas whats causing such a rough idle/start?

Check your fuel system first, then go with ignition system, then move on to sensors. Check your fuel filter.

Well, first, what were you doing before any of this happened anything out of the ordinary? did you run it hard? did you go over a bump at afaster pace? or did it just happen?

Go pick up a Haynes or a Chilton's manual at your nearest parts store. It will become your best friend. Well worth the $15. I learned more about vehicles reading those books than pretty much anything else. It will walk you trough waaaaaay better than I could over the net. it has pics and everything. You'll also need to pick up a ford fuel line release tool while you're there. Just tell the guys at the counter what you're looking for, and if they're not asses tehn you'll be set.
