From what a Ford mech. told me, the 3.9 was only in the 04's then they came out with 4.0 in 05. The 3.9 is also in the Windstar and is the same as the 3.8 only with a slightly longer stroke. He also said they were a very good motor and faster than the 3.8. Don't know how true that last part is but that's what he said.

Engines are identical, just with a slightly different stroke as stated above. Its arguable though. I doubt any of it is true, but the borexstroke #s Ford gave out would make it seem the 3.9 has smaller pistons and the stroke to make up for the cubes. But its actually just a very lightly stroked 3.8L V6, only put in the 2004 40th Anni. mustang. 236 or 238 cubic inches depending on what you want yo believe.

yeh. i smoked my friends 04 auto with my 005spd but that probably has alot more to do with the transmission difference than it does with the engine.

Really? Mine feels as quick as my 99 Camaro with a 3.8 / 5 spd did. I really didn't want a FAST car anyway, if I had I would have got a GT. I just wanted one that looked good, was fun to drive and got decent mileage so I could afford to drive it.
