Premium tune worth it?
This is a little bit off the subject but i read an article that our sixers arn't tuned for premium which we all know but what i foud interesting was that if you actually put premium gas in a car that has a stock tune it actually takes power away. I'm only talking about losing 2 to 3 horses but i just found that intresting.

your freind did not gain 38 HP on a tune, post up a TIME SLIP of runs, something that cannot be faked

well, if you load a tune that requires premium, you'll be gaining a whopping 4-7RWHP on a bolton/nearly stock car. would 7RWHP max be worth paying another $2-$3 at the pump every time?
if you aren't even tuned for it or your car doesn't knock on regular, you're just wasting your money

yeah, there's no way in hell you got 38HP. you can get 30HP on an 05+ GT with a CAI and tune, but that's about it. if you could get 38HP from a dyno tune, that'd have to be the first thing to do.
anyway, your ability to launch the car out of the hole will affect your times more than running 6HP.

That's true. Premium doesn't burn as hot, that's why you can advance the timing with it and not get detonation like low octain.

And anything can be faked, even the real graph off a dyno, purely by adjusting the values, and I do believe it's not too tough to photoshop a timeslip as well.
I'm trying to stop people from speculating since most have no way of knowing the facts.

He has bolt ons, and a few other things, but getting the proper tune neted him an additional 38HP. It was also a GT. That is a fact, I have seen the numbers. I don't have the graphs because I'm not in the habit of saving other people's dyno graphs.

this is the v6 section. the way you put that out was anybody can get up to 38HP. you neglected to mention the year and model of this stang that picked up 38HP.

To be more specific, it is a 98 GT with some minor head work, ported intakeand few other things. I am quoting the numbers that came up from having all this done on a stock tune as opposed to a proper tune to illustrate how advantagous it is to do. Although I know it is kind of tough to expect a lot from pure bolt-ons, but it is always best to use your resources to your advantage. 3-5 hp on several add ons will add up pretty quickly, and the tune will take advantage of that further, it may not be huge, but it's still more none the less.

A friend of mine gained literally 38hp on a good XCAL 2 dyno tune in premium. That's fact, not an "I think", of a "maybe."
