Mandrel Bending
Here is the deal....I have been getting outragous quotes to have some 2.25" true duals with turndowns fabricated. What I want to do now is just get some GT take offs but due to the time of the year not to much has turned up so in the mean time I am weighing my options. What I want to know is this, GT take offs are not mandrel bent, correct? There is a guy I work with and his brother owns a shop that can do exhaust bending but it won't be mandrel, they say they can make it close tho. The price they can give me is potentiallty very low, is this an accepeptable alternative to GT take offs?
Thanks
Thanks
i just got my takeoffs in today...ill go check.
and there is no in-between...its either mandrel or kinked. any place you go with a pipe bender will say "we can get it close."
before i got mine, i had a shop quote and it was $200 for install and piping(off the mid-pipe.) + $50 for chrome turndowns...not mandrel bent. but he showed me a piece that they bent 92* and it was kinked, but not bad for 92* bend.
but now i have my own, and ill be doinginstall with my buddy.
and now is the season for takeoffs, winter work on the cars. by spring everything needs to be on.

What are good places to look for Take-offs? I know a guy who may be having his bullet exhaust redone soon but I'm not holding my breath on that one. Also, I have make a post on Craigslist.
parts for sale section? 4.6 section?
if the guy who owns a junkyard calls me back, Ill see if that mustang's exhaust is any good for you. and a GT bumper aswell(red)
i saw mine 3 weeks ago in F/S section, talked him down a little and sent him a M/O and i just got it today!
and yes, from what i could tell just the over-axle part is bent, not mandrel, but you can hardly tell.
I think having it mandrel bent isnt really worth the $$ for the slight diffrence in the bends we'd have for our cars.

most shops can do a pretty good job bending the pipe and the kinks shouldnt be too bad. you dont have to get it mandrel bent. its not really necessary.the takeoffs wont be mandrel bent so if the shop will do it for a good price i would have them do it. you get new pipe thats custom fit to your car.
Yeah, thats what I figured. The problem for me getting things on here or the internet for that matter is that I am in Canada, so anything of that size comming accross the border is gonna cost me. I'm goning to look into how much it would cost from the guy at work andjust keep my eyes open for some local take-offs. Thanks Guys.
btw, no one from the U.S. go to Canadia unless you're forced to with a gun to your head!
Canadia's immigrationpeople are ****ers...except the border patrol guys that let us keep da beur. they were cool.
