Default Which massive upgrade first?

So here I am studying what I want to do to my ride. I'm gonna have close to three grand sitting around soon and will be looking at some huge mod to my car. Not sure what yet, but I do know that either way I'll see huge horsepower gains. Should I go the naturally aspirated route first, and rebuild the engine, possibly with a power pak and some forged internals, or should I just strap on a packaged turbo charger? My recent encounter with a turbocharged vehicle made me want that similar response. Also, assume I'll put a trac-loc on somewhere in this endeavor. Either upgrade should allow for me to move into the other later, so which one would I enjoy more for now?

build the engine to be able to take the extra power and get a cam that will work good w/ the turbo. that and all of the fuel stuff. do everything you need to do before the tubo then get the turbo. that and i think its cool to have a badass n/a motor.

Rebuild it now. You will see more power increase if you turbocharge the rebuilt engine than you would see if you turbocharged the engine as it is now.

3 grand will not buy you F/I, but 3 grand will be nice for the setup of F/I. Go to www.supersixmotorsports.com and ask them some questions, i am sure they will be able to help you out more then we can.

Well, I know what to expect, numbers wise. A turbo would yiled higher RIGHT NOW than an engine rebuild would. Highest I could possibly expect from an NA motor built correctly is 260 at the crank, maybe 290. From what I know about a decent turbo charger kit, it should yield 350 or so. A turbo would be faster RIGHT NOW, but would I enjoy it more, that's the question here. Would I enjoy the 350 of turbo'd hp, or the 290 or so of NA be more fun. They'd drive differently, and I know this. Perhaps I didn't word my question right... strategically, bringing the integrity of the engine into question, the rebuild should happen first. But a good turbo kit shouldn't really **** up my engine... Iono. The question is, would NA or turbo power be more fun... driving that WRX was a blast, but waiting for that turbo to spool wasn't so cool... it lacked any form of testicular appendage until about 3000 rpm and running at 100hp or so until then was a drag... but riding that **** hard and shifting about 4000 was so damn fun... never out of boost... ^_^

But yeah, turbo, or non-turbo'd rebuild. Both would cost me in the end about 3000$ to 3500$, both would have me buying a trac loc, and a tuner, possibly final gears too to help make the car more drivable. I finally had somebody explain that to me by the way, and apparently it increases the number of crank rpms to form a axle rpm, which makes the engine work less, apparently, and it spins up faster... so it builds accel but kills top speed because you're redlining sooner and at lower speeds. Anyway, yeah, I know wsome of what I need to know, question is, which would I enjoy more. Turbo lag, but with more horsepower, or engine rebuild with steady american power.

And 3G will get me a turbo, I know where to get it, it's a full turbo kit with an intercooler and such, that I can get for like 2900, and an acquaitance of mine runs it, again, yielding about 350hp.

If you can get that turbo and you know it's in good condition for that cheap, then i retract my previous statement. Go for the turbo!

F/I is always the last thing I would do to a car. Make it a monster as much as you can N/A, then throw on a super/turbo charger.

Considering the kits are new, great condition, I'd expect.Anyway, a rebuild is unanymous. I'll keep you guys updated, gotta get my tax return and fasfa returns first, which sould yield me about 1800, and if I get this job, I'll have another 1100 in teh bank... so I'm set to rebuild the engine and throw on a trac loc and get a tuner. Problem is, tires are shot.
