Default Converting the old, to the new

k, so theres where im at and what im thinkin....
i just joined today, so bear with me....
I've got an old 1984 V6 (of course) with the 3.8l 242000km boat anchor and i wanna replace it with something alittle newer....
my thought goes like this.... stock, the 3.8l put out 120hp TOPS, but the new 3.5l in the lincolns put out about 265 accordin to the ford website.... hmmmm, what would it take to convert my old 3.8l carb and auto tranny setup to the much improved 3.5l fuelie and a manual tranny? any hints and or direction you can give would be most appreciated thanks everybody

Id say just use all that money ull be spending on a newer car, but if u really want to do it, id go with anything that put out more than 120.

like, ive been lookin for parts for that engine since the day i bought the car, and as far as i can tell, no body makes more than a rebuild kit for it no turbo kits, no s/c kits, nuttin... even universal NOS kits wont work on it cause its a 2bbl carb, not cfi

it might be time for an upgrade my friend, i kno ur probably attatch to your car but it might just be easier to get a new car than engine swap.

ya, ive been eyeballin gettin a newer 98 style car, but no offense, the v6's in them suck until they get s/c'ed or turbo'd or something.... so idunno what to do... i like the inherent shock value of a ***** out fast v6 mustang, but the work and money can be very restrictive, ya know?

well, those things, and idunno how much power im really gonna need.... course, it dont help when everyone i know says "get a 5.0, its cheaper and easier"...... jeez, im so confused.... i LOVE my car, but i want it to kick some *** before i have to sell it, esp since the only time i took it to the track, it ran a 19.2 at 75mph[:@] so, im thinkin that if i go wit this motor, i should at least be able to get it to mid 15s timeslips i think.... mind, those times are at 6000ft above sea level..... and 30degrees celsius....

nanaki has a point, but yeah 98 v6=no power stock... the edges and s197s are much better.

If you are gonna stay N/A and Ford V6, dont mess with the new Cologne engines. The wiring would be a literal nightmare, instead, crate engine time. Contact Tom at www.supersixmotorsports.com about having him build you a carbed 4.3L V6, or just one of their 300hp crate engines. V6 power in wooden box baby.
