Default Do it or no?

Hey guys I need some advice, a friend of mine wrecked his 01 GT a couple weeks ago, it had 44,000 miles on it and it was in pretty good condition, he bought it back from the insurance and now he told me he would sell me the motor with tranny for $600, this sounds like an awesome deal, but the only thing is that he said the tranny needs a new synchro kit which I dont know what that is, the motor comes with everything except the computer and wiring, so should I jump on this deal or what? let me know asap thanks

I would say run the other way unless you can get the whole car. You are going to need a lot more than just the engine and trans to do the swap.

You have no idea what you're getting yourself into. The computer and wiring are expensive, but that's the least of your worries. First of all, you're going to have to have another cross member and drive shaft. I would hope that you would want his differential. If not, hello $400 for a tuner so your speedometer will be accurate, which I'm not sure if a tuner will help you going from an 8.8 to a 7.5. When you get this engine in, the car's not going to start. You're going to have to take it to Ford and have them program two keys for your PATS system, that's another $100 in labor, and they can reprogram the keys that you're usingnow, so you don't have to buy new ones. Is he going to give you the A/C compressor and lines? What about the power steering pump and lines? I'm assuming your six has a manual trans? If not, you have the joy of another major chunk of change to convert it from an auto to a manual. I know about that chunk because I did the auto to manual conversion on mine. I can assure you that I have not even began to cover all of what you're going to need. You're looking at some major money to do this and it be right.

I have considered trading my stang in for a GT but I wouldnt be able to get much and I have already spent some time and money on my car.... hmmm... i got some more thinkin to do....

Man, honestly, if your friends are supposed to be technicians, and they have not mentioned all of this to you, no offense in any way, butI would not let those guys work on my bicycle.

The synchrofix for the T3650 isn't going to be cheap...I wouldn't do it.
