Default 0411 Engine Code

My check engine light has been coming on since I bought my '98 V-6. The code comes back as 0411 - Air Injection System. What are my chances of this being a bad sensor, as compared to needing a new air pump? Has anybody else had this code? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Fords are notorious for P0401, P0402, and P0411 codes. All realated to either a sticking DPFE switch and/or leaks in the hoses that supply the switch. This switch controls the EGR valve that in turn controls the EGR valve. I haven't experienced or heard of the EGR usually being the cause.

I can tell you where the switch is located for 99+ V6 (not sure if the 98 is similar) Looking at the engine, it will be on the passenger side front. On a bracket directly above the A/C compressor. It will be black or gray, rectangular, and have one electrical connector and two vacuum lines running to it. It will be next to the EGR valve.

Check or replace the vacuum lines going to it. If the switch itself is bad it runs about $30-40 to replace it.

Great info. Thanks for your help. As soon as the snow melts I'll go out and check it.

Cheers.
