Default gear and stall question

well now that my car is back with my monstrous cam....it sucks....look at my time but please dont laugh.......thecam is set for 3000-6000 rpm range.....but anyways.....im now in the market for a gear, tlock, and stall converter......im going with a 2800-3200 stall but i didnt know if it mattered whether it was for a v6 or v8.all i could find was for just 4r70w and no certain engine.i figured that it would stall differently for different motors....and i wastold to geta 3.90 gear but is there such thing for a ford 7.5??? i may just go for a 3.73 but my car came with a 3.27 and i didnt know if it would make much of a difference.....any help???

I would go with 4.10 gears and a t-lock. You are right about stall converters acting different for different motors but also weight affects them. Why did you get such a big cam for a street car? If you didn't get heads or do major head work on yours the cam will never produce like it should. Peronally I would have gone with one from 1500 - 5000 to help maintain low end power for the street.

well delk custom grinded it so it would hit a lick and it does that but robbed all my bottom end...so can i just get a 3200 stall for a 4r70w and be good?...and then of course the gear and locker

Hi 03Sixbanger,

Gearsets for the 7.5" include:

2.73
3.08
3.27
3.31 (stock 05-07)
3.45
3.73
4.10 (*?)
4.11 *
4.56 *

*The 4.11 & 4.56 gears need that "notched X pin" that everyone sees in the online catalogs.

More details in this thread:
https://mustangforums.com/m_2795722/...tm.htm#2867872

Can help with the stall converter info.

I have heard that if you have a stick shift to go with 3:73, if you have an auto go with 4:10s, thats seems to be what most people say. If you do have an auto here are a couple of things that might help you lower your 1/4 mile time. You should shift your gears yourself, just don't red line it then shift, my buddy did that to mine and cost me 1500 bucks to get a reman. tranny and new torque converter. Also hold your brake in and push on the gas, but don't spin your tires, should give you a better jump off the line, atleast it does for me. By reading this you agree not to press chargers if my advice causes any damage to your vehicle, lol.

I wouldn't go any higher than a 3000 stall for a street / strip car. With that and 4.10 gears it will help restore some low end power.
