Few questions from the new guy
I'll just start off by saying that i'm very new to Mustangs and this forum, but not new to cars in general. I found a 2000 Mustang Coupe 5-spd V6 for $6,000 selling locally with 70Kmiles, and I am thinking of buying it, but I have a few questions (and sorry if these have been asked many times).
First, does the V6 Mustang use a timing belt or chain? And is it a non-interference engine?
Secondly, since the car im looking at has 70K miles on it already, how much longer could I expect it to last without any major repairs. The seller says the car is in great shape with no rust, and hasn't been driven hard.
Thirdly, do you think that $6K is a fair price for someone selling a car with those miles and the condition? I plan to talk them down to $5000-$5500 if possible. Heres the link

that's not a bad price, you could probably get them down to 5 or 5500, as far as the car goes the motor should run for a very long time and the only "major" repair would be a clutch replacement. that all depends on how hard the car has been driven and such, for me my car has 79k on it and the stock clutch performs just fine.
the V6 mustang uses a timing chain...and i don't know what a non-interference engine is
i do know the 3.8l is a pushrod, over head valve design, with 2 valves per cylinder, it's pretty old school technology but is also reliable.

I have seen Mustangs with over 150,000 miles on them and they are running perfectly. If the guy kept it well, and didn't drive it like we drive ours then it should last pretty long. I would inspect the car everywhere before buying though. My mom went to buy my car an hour away and didn't even look at it before buying it (don't worry, I paid them over $2k for it, no spoilage here). Immediately upon washing it I noticed the passenger side skirt isn't even bolted in at the rear part, the front bumper doesn't really fit right, something needs to be unbolted and bolted in again. Plus the air filter was the most grimy thing...long story short, I'm pissed at her for not looking, and at the dealership for actually selling a car with those flaws. But I Seafoamed it, removed the air silencer, put a K&N air filter in, some white faced gauges, and Silverstar bulbs and now I'm pretty happy for the most part.
So what I would suggest is Seafoam your car when you get it, it cleans everything in the engine and really brings it back. Search youtube for "seafoam mustang" and you'll see what I'm talking about.

No, it's not an interference engine, and it's not something you really need to worry about anyway. Also it has a timing chain,no belts, belts are for bitches.

I've been talking to the women who currently has the car, and she said it was her daughters previously and she took very good care of it. She even said that she babied the car.
The only reason I asked about the timing belt/chain was because my previous car used a belt, and it snaped when I was on the highway, but lukily it was a non-interference engine so I didnt damage the engine.
And im selling my car now, and I was looking at either a 99 Camry V6 Stick or the 00 Mustang V6 Stick, same price, but the Camry had 128K already. Although I love Toyota's and their reliability, I pretty much decided to get the Mustang, because of its fairly low mileage and the great shape its in.

lol, just kidding man. Sounds like a good deal. I'd jump on it.
Sounds like a good deal but if you can get it to a shop andcheck out the undercarriage, brakes, & suspension. It may cost you $25.00 - $50.00 but it's best to know everything before you fork over hard earned money.
She did say that the car needed a new wiper motor, but that was replaced, and currently something may need to be done to the power steering pump which may cost around $100, but she also said that it runs great and steers great, it just squeaks at times (I would probably fix that if its something really annoying).
