Default 98 V6 upgrade to duals

I'm thinking about a summer project for my car, as I wont need to drive much I can afford to have my car sitting for a while. What I'm wondering is, if i were to get an entire GT exhaust setup, what years would work only the sn95 ones, or others also? and how much should I spend for a good set, and about how much time would it take to remove the old one and install the new one? Would I get any performance improvements that are noticeable? If I replaced the headers at the same time with better ones, what kind of gains could I expect to get? I'm mainly going for sound, but a little more power is always accepted. One more thing, can I get away without welding anything, or will it require some welding? If so, could I take it to a shop, and then drive the stuff home in my dads truck?
