Hi everyone....first time Mustang owner here. I just bought a used 2002 Green Convertible for summer fun only. My main car is a 2007 Mazda CX7 (a previous Mazda RX 8 owner...do Mustang people hate those?);]. Love them both. Question.....has anyone here pulled off the headlight **** before? I bought a new dash face plate with the plastic cover and I can't seem to get the plastic **** off so I can install this. It says there should be a tab and you push it in and pop it off...no luck. There is a slit in the plastic where I can see something metal and I try to push on it and it does not move....doesn't look like a tab....then I pulled the trim piece off a little to see if there are screws and don't see anything there either. Argh! Any tips ideas? Need a pic to help me? I have never taken off dash pieces or trim before...also, I am a female just so you know...not that it matters. Thanks a bunch!!

 

Turn the headlight **** all the way to the left and pulled it out.
Then bend a nail at a 90* angle at the tip, and stick it into the little headlight **** slot and pull towards the door and the **** should pull right off with a small amount of force.

Tried and did not succeed....not sure what I am doing wrong. Turned it all the way left. Hubby and a neighbor tried too. Theres a little metal piece around the metalpart of the **** in the slot. It does not budge...pushed, pulled with a screwdriver and nail...no success. The **** is about to break.

 

It's a metal clip. It's doesnt come off. You just have to unclamp it and pull the **** at the same time. I think I've dont it so much I can probably do it with my eyes closed. I think a flat head screw driver works best.

 

If you have to then break it off and just get a new one, i sell them $7 Shipped. Just because you are new to the Stang world.

Dumb question maybe but...how do you get the clamp off? It looks like this little metal piece wraps around like a nut...hard to tell? Thanks gang. I may have to break it to get the metal piece off...

 

Thanks...I was looking for that just in case...I switched out my window switches and door ***** to a billet style chrome so I probably will take you up on that.

 

Broke when taking it off....oh well...ordered new billet **** anyway. Put in the new guage surround....silver 35th anniversary one with new plastic cover. Looks cool. Added billet door *****, window controls etc.

 

Mine issuperglued because I broke itthe first time I took it off so I just break it and super glue it back everytime I need to take it off.
