Default reliability?

hey, I have posted on this section of the forum in the past, and I have another question regarding a V-6 mustng.

I have sold (buyer just has to pick it up[&:]) my '86 V-6 hatchback and I am looking around, kicking a few tires trying to find a good replacement.

now I would love a V-8 car, however finding one in good shape and or cheap is a bit of a challenge. so I am also keeping my eyes open for a sn95 or new edge v-6.

How reliable are the late model V-6 engines? my old v-6 wouldnt stop breaking on me... blew a headgasket, I fixed that, the bearings went out, when I rebuilt the top half, 3 gauges stopped working...[:@]

so I would love a new mustang, but I am tenative about looking at a newer v-6...

Just curious about how reliable they are, and how well do they respond to mods? If i were to get one, I intend on simple bolt ons, CAI, TB, GT-exhaust, suspesnsion... etc...

any info would be a great help. thanks[8D]

the 99-04 v6 models are very reliable. i think even 96+ is good, the only real concern for some of the mid 90's 3.8L motors is the head gasket blowing. other than that it is a strong motor that will run well over 100-150k if maintained. i have 80k on mine and have had only a few very minor issues.

thanks man. how much would a 99-04 go for these days? I have seen a bunch in my area, but they all want over 12 K or more... and they all had at least 60-100 Thousand on the Odometer... I have seen a few on ebay go for anywhere from 3-6 K...

Well, my 01 was a salvage car. And we all know that those can sometimes be problem cars. But, in my 8 months of ownership, i've only had to replace a spark plug and the 02 sensor.

i would go for a 99-04, they have 40 more hp than the 98> and they are a more reliable due to some of the earlier models blowing head gaskets
a car with 60-100k miles shouldnt go for more than 8k-9k. look around u should be able to find a nice stang with less miles for that if u hunt
