well follow the steering shaft from the firewall, there is a box with a bunch of tubes coming out of it in the K-member, that is your steering box.
To change it you need to pull your rack and you will need to rent a rack puller from AutoZone and then remove the unit.
The unit I am selling is 1 peice, I didnt have to take it apart because I took the engine out of the Mach1

ok so i went to a shop, my filler neck sealant needs to be replaced (leaking gas), its a rubber O ring, and the guy quoted me at 170 give or take 20 for labor+parts... sounds stupid to replace a friggin rubber O ring, second, he was pushing the wheels back and forth and they stopped so he said there was nothing wrong with that and that the steering pump was just a bit noisy.. he said that i dont have a steering box, that i have a rack and it could be the gears inside that.. anyway... replace my steering fluid.. any suggestions, and to buy the filler neck sealant?
wtf, isnt that what the steering box is?
Sounds like he is trying to get a lot of work out of you.
Everything you just said is an easy shadetree mechanic routine maintinance and repair.
Get the parts you need from AutoZone and do it when you have time.
Changing your PS fluid is important anyways, it can become costic and eat seals and it can get contaminated with water.
I havnt heard a used Ford pump not make noise.
