Default water in air filter box

I have a 2004 Mustang with a 3.9 liter engine. On two different occasions I have gotten water and sand in the air filter. The first time I had to replace the engine (extended warranty would not cover either ensident) The second time I had to replace the mass air flow sensor. With the location that Ford placed the air tube (in the right fender well, 6" from the front tire) has anyone else had this problem and what can I do to keep this from happening again?

Thanks
Gary

I have an 04 and have not had any problems like that at all. You can remove the silencer from the air box, that might help.

Your problem is that water and dirt is getting inside the inner fender well.
You need to inspect and make sure all the clips are there, tug on it a little and see if it separates. Try to find where its coming in from. This is a very bad thing to happen as the paper filter will not protect against that for long, a K&N is even worse in water.

If you can not find the problem then I suggest a Short ram AKA streight shot cold air intake.
Then just cover up the hole in the fender. That will take car of it for good but it is better to locate the problem and fix it.

There also could be something wrong with the air defector under the front bumper which is allowing dirt and water to get up into the fender well...

If you live anywhere around Springfield Mo I will help ya out.

What are the chances of this happening with a fenderwell CAI? I am about to get one and I don't want to replace my engine !!!

easy enough. drill a 1/2" hole in the botttom of the filter housing to let the water drain.

The chances are rare of that happening, infact this is the first case that I have ever heard of this happening. A fender well CAI is the most common mod really (no facts to back that up ) and is very safe.

I think he has something broken with his fenderwell or lower air damn to be causing his problem. Heck he could even have a huge hole in his fender well.
