It would work as well as any straight shot system and for a lot less money. I think leaving the silencer on but cutting most of it off would work better though.

i have this same thign done ill post a pic really soon, did feel some more gain on acceleration and pushing through the gears. But no decrease in perfomance. That side wall will pick up the cold air more than the heat

it wont pick up anyore then the 1-2 hp over a normal CAI so it wont make that much of a differance unless you have other mods

im saying i felt more gains from removing the silencer and then cutting the piece but yes i know it wont have gains like reg. cold air intakes. But a nice lil mod that you could do on your own. just my 2 cents
