I have a 1998 V6 Mustang 5M with 88k. I want to do a split port engine but I don't know whether I should buy a whole spilt-port engine or just do the split-port swap onto my engine. Which would be cheaper? I was thinking about getting a 99-00 V6 or GT but I don't want payments right now since my car is paid off and I am a poor college student anyway. What all would I need withthe engine swap or the intake swap?

If you swap the whole motor, all you have to do is account for the newer style fuel rail which uses a returnless set up instead of the return style you have currently. It would be much easier than stripping your motor down and swapping parts.

That was what I figured but I didn't know for sure. Plus I wouldn't have as much down time.

Well if you can find a 99-04 engine from a junk yard with decent milage for under $1K then do it, but you can get refinished split port parts for around $700 online at different site, and you also have the option of pulling the parts from a junk yard if you can't find any good 99-04 assembled engines. You also have the option to port and polish everything before the install when you just get the parts, this will add more hp and all around better performance, so this is something for you to consider.

I was planning on just getting the engine, building it up some and then dropping it in this winter.

If you could just find an engine that would likely be the best and cheapest option, but if you're looking for a swap kit, check out SSM. Split-port upper and lower intakes plus all the accessories stuff you'll need to make it work with the older SN-95 fuel system... http://www.supersixmotorsports.com/p...GarageSale.pdf
