Default Check Engine Light...NEED HELP

okay Iwoke up today at 7am and my check engine light was on........read the code it was p0402......it said excessive EGR Flow.....how do i fix it?????

Your DPFE valve/sensor/switch needs to be replaced. P0402 and P0401 (the opposite of what you got) both require replacement of that valve.

It looks like this



and is located on the passenger side to the left of the EGR valve.

Cost =? My wifes Escape had the same problem, it was done for free under warranty. It can't be more than $30-$40

It's easy to replace, 1-2 bolts, two vacuum lines, and one electrical pigtail. 10 minutes tops

Try cleaning it to start. But you should replace it at some point.

yeah replaced it.......$78 but it had to be done.....

yeah i replaced mine too because my car was stumbling after i cleaned my IAC out really well and it cost $78 also...ford dealerships got me on that one [&:]

it was $158 at ford...lol...i bought mine from an auoparts store.....and then i found out i broke anoher cam shaft synchroniser
