Advice requested.......upgrade or buy new?
I have a base model '98, and I'm ready for more muscle and flair. I'm considering major upgrades for my existing vehicle starting with the engine and then moving on to the body, suspension, wheels, ect. The pros are the fact that I can do these things over time, and that I won't have to get rid of the vehicle I've become attached to. The cons are that I don't have a garage, and I don't know where to look (I live in Newport, RI) for someone who can help me with these maneuvers. My questions are: 1) where would I look for someone who is knowlegeable and available to assist me; 2) would it be more costly to upgrade the vehicle than to just buy something new with the kind of performance I'm looking for; 3) Is it possible that I spend tons of cash, only to have major complications with other components of the vehicle due to age and end up constantly pouring money in. Anyone with advice who has experience with this sort of decision and/or upgrading this model Mustang would be greatly appreciated!
Talk to Cobra232 on this site. His 98 V6 is pushing about 280 rwhp or something like that. Maybe more, maybe less, but he's the most knowledgeable of the 3.8 motor as far as I know.
Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm really leaning towards purchasing a new engine and building from there. 4.6L or 5.0L supercharged is what I'm thinking. I've been driving around the Subaru WRX STI and Saleen S281 Supercharged lately and I'm hooked on the power surge. My main concern is that the rest of my car is probably not built for, nor capable of supporting that kind of muscle without major upgrades across the board. I'm willing to spend a fair amount of cash, but don't want to throw my money at a black hole.
Again, thanks for the replies and keep them coming!

I have a 98 V6 too. I decided on just building my car up slowly. I am done with the suspension now and I decided to just buy aused split-port engine and build it up until next summer and stick it in my car. I don't want serious power out of mine though. I thought a custom turbo set-up with a small amount of boost would be sweet on my car.
