Despondent, Discouraged, Sad

an update: just for kicks I drove to the theater tonight to watch Transformers (nice Camaro, nice Shelby if they would get that crap off of it).
Anyway the charging system was not functioning, so I drove home on battery alone. Lights very dim. Tach went to zero, then the speedo, then the airbag light started flickering. Car is dying an agonizing death.
I'll spend a few bucks for the alternator if that's the prob. I have other vehicles. I really should have paid attention to the odometer when I went to the auction!

$400-$600 and $300 for the install by a garage and your pony will be running good for quite awhile longer.

Ive dont all the research... Dont worry I know about the things they did that bogged down the power.. As for my comment, 250K isnt what was wrong its that his car crapped out on him and its a "modern" engine not carbed and its got more problems then some of the matching #s original old Chevys and some fords ive found.

fact is ford and chebby engines from about 95 and on with a few exceptions will last 300,000 miles with proper maintainence. the rest of the car is up in the air.
the mustangs have always been pretty eliable chassis wise except for front wheel bearings but that's no biggie at $55/hub assembly.
F-bodies however will make you find new swear words when changing spark plugs unless it's the puny 3.4L f-body.
the 3800 takes about 3 hours to change plugs as does the LT-1 and LS1
Whoever said Chevy is more reliable than ford, I beg to differ. Of the three Chevys we've owned, all have not made it to 120,000 miles, and we maintain our cars well! But since 2000 or so, it seems that Chevy has come up in the world with their reliability. I honestly believe we are living in a period where ALL the car companies are reliable now, yes...even Saturn.

well you haven't done enough research. my old 97 3800 firebird crapped it's engine at just over 90,000 miles. grated i was hard on it but evn so it is known as one of the best engines ever made.
