Well... I was changing the oil on my car the other day in the garage, started up the car, hood was popped and I heard a sound that I always hear coming from the car which I assumed was my CAI bracket being loose because of the crap fitment... Anyways... I start listening around to a noise that sounds like a squeak that's going with the engine, I go ahead and give it some gas while listening around and notice the sound speeds up with the engine and the sound actually is coming from the driver side of the engine compartment near the back. Now that got me thinking to maybe I've got a cracked header but is this the sound it normally makes? Doesn't concern me too much as my LT's are on the way just wondering if this is the noise!

Cliff Notes: Does a cracked header sound like a squeaking that accelerates with engine RPM's? Have this sound coming from driver side back of engine compartment.

 

No a header leak would not sound like a squeak. If its towards the back of the motor/front of the trans it could be a failing pump (if its an auto trans).

My EGR valvue makes an exhaust sounding leak until it gets warm enough to open up, but that is on the front of the motor.

 

exhaust leak will make a ticking noise.

 

I had a problem like that but it was my A/C compressor. The clutch on it was going bad and it would screech and make squeeky noise. Where is the noise exactly comin from?

 

i DID something to say... but after seeing that pic up there^^^ i forgot...

 

I don't always hear it... I'm gonna go out and wash the car later and I'll see if I can get a video clip to load up. It's almost like a metal squeaking which is why I thought my intake was somehow loose, but it's coming from the rear of the driver side and goes with the RPM's... Don't think it can quite be described as a ticking.
