Default Noisey engine

Hey all,

I recently bought a 99 V6 mustang that has a lot of annoying engine noise. Not the engine itself, but maybe the power steering and who knows what else. Is this common? It is worse when I just start the engine, but never gets as quiet as I would like.

Any advise on how to quiet down some of this stuff? I park in a parking garage, and it is down right embarrassing when I have people with me.

Is it a slipping belt, screeching sound?

Yeah cheack the belt for stretching or improper alignment. Also make sure all fluids are toppped off, like the power steering.

No, pretty sure it is not a belt. Will check to make sure fluids are full.

it is probably the power steering pump if it is a screeching. turn the wheel from left to right and such and see if the noise increases if so that is probably your power steering pump. make sure that it has enough fluid, refer to the manual for how to check fluid levels please. Also if you don't want to replace the pump, get a chicken baster or something else to suck out the fluid in the pump reservoir. take out about 12-16 oz of fluid and replace that with lucas power steering additive. that may quiet the pump down significantly. if it doesnt' and you need a new pump they are cheap (like $50) and replacing it isn't that hard, you will need to rent a pulley puller to take off the pulley on the front of the pump, but those are free to rent from virtually any auto parts store. It is a good project that will familiarize yourself with under the hood, and give you a sense of accomplishment changing something yourself.

If you have questions please feel free to pm me as I have done this before.
