Default Auto Shifter Problem

Aight i'm gonna do the best I can to try and explain this lol so bear with me.... I have a '99 auto v6 and lately my shifter has been acting real weird like I'd have to put it into neutral to get the car into reverse and the other day I couldn't get it into drive at all and all I had was reverse. so basically it felt like it was just a cable stretching and stretching until it just up and snapped. Currently there is no tension whatso ever on the shifter and it's locked up in park etc. I can move the shifter through all the gears but it's just loose and obviously dosn't ingage any of the gears. now i'm not too car smart so I'm just trying to figure out if it's just a cable i'm lookign at or if i'm just screwed. I've been trying to avoid taking it into a deal n such cause it's stuck in my drive way and tow trucks are expensive n what not... just looking for some feedback. thanks

You need to get a Mustang Manual book. It sounds like your cable adjuster maybe broke. If you had the manual, you could look for it yourself in your driveway. Otherwise its going to the shop.
