ok i just bought a 2001 3.8 its got roush style exsaust, side skirts and rear bumper, also cold air intake. I been told it has like a shift kit type thing. it is an auto trans. and when i get into the car it will get a second and even third gear scratch and kick out the *** end some and it does all this without manually goin throught the gears, i just put it in drive and pedal to tha floor can anyone tell me exactly what i may have?

 

either a shift kit, or a Jmod. they make the trans hit right away and cause it to shift much firmer.

Sounds like a shift kit to me with maybe a little rear end gear work. Best way to tell if the gears have been done to to jack the rear end off the ground, put the car in neutral. Make a little mark on the driveshaft and the wheel, spin the wheel one time and count the number of driveshaft rotations. If you have 3.27 driveshaft rotations, then your gears are stock, if you have more than that, like 3.73 or 4.10, then they your gears have been swaped.

 

i thought it may bea shift kit, but i will test to see if it has gears in it too and let yall know. Thanx for the info jthorn9 and guys!!
