motor, tranny mounts, custom driveshaft. 8.8" or 9" rearend, fuel regulator, at least a 3" cowl induction hood, heavier springs, moroso oil pan (not sure but may need to clear, depending on application), if its a stock 351w, i reccomend an Edelbrock 550 or 600 cfm 4bbl carb, gonna need a tranny for it, a WC t5 would be awesome, anything else for a 5.0 will fit for the 351.

semi-newb: the big diff with that engine and our OHV is the fuel injection right? so you'd have to be running an entire new fi system too?

OMG PEOPLE! That would be the brightest idea if you blew your 3.8L. Engine, tranny, mounts, Reccomended-Rear end, custom driveshaft(NOT needed), pickup for tank, Yeah throw in a Manual tranny, that way everyone will fly buy you because you cant shift that fast. Automatic for the win C4, NOT a C6. C4 will hold just as much power if built right, and a C6 takes more power. Carbed power is so much cheaper.
I spent $5K to hit 9's

Good luck with inspections, I know theres a law about putting a carburated engine into a vechile thats already fuel injected cause it won't pass smog regulations or some crap like that. I 'am not saying iam right but thats what ive been hearing.

that's cool and all, but i'd never put an auto in a sports car; even if it was slightly faster.

i would like to know more about putting a carbed 302 in a 3.8 2002 mustang though; if you have links.

its alot of work

another option besides the above stuff is a 4.2 out of a ford f1150 which will give you a nice bump in power and should be less then $500

Yeah your right about never putting a Auto in a Sports car, Thats why I Drive a MUSCLE car. Emmisions will have a problem, im in MI and didnt think bout it. I heard you can build your car for off road use only, and then switch it back, as long as it passes emmisions i think in Pen.. When you hit 11's it is very hard to keep up with the shifting.

there is nothing wrong with an automatic transmission if its set up right. i have a 5speed now but my car may as well be stock. if i was going to really build up my car with tons of power i would definitely go auto. i agree with the c4
