Default Parking Brake Issues

So today I took my car to get an inspection and somehow I mustve pulled up the parking brake too hard or something and something snapped on it. It's like a little metal peice that connectsthe lever to something else. When the guy did the inspection I checked and everything was attached underneather so thats a good thing. Now it goes farther up than normal and when I release it it seems like it doesn't want to go down all the way. Does anyone know how to fix this or would I have to take it to the dealer to get it fixed...How much do you think it would be to fix the parking brake? I can post a picture up later showing exactly what it is.

Also, Is it normal that when I have the parking brake engaged and my foot on the clutchforthe car tomoveback?

Thanks.

A pic may help. Basically, the parking brake cable tension is typically held by the springs of the brake, all the way back to the back wheels. whatever broke is causing slack and basically I think you simply don't have a parking brake anymore. see next paragraph.

No. the brake should hold your car, even with a little power going to the wheels. In Texas the inspection pass/fail for the park brake is (for auto trans) to engage the brake, then place in drive at idle, the park brake is supposed to hold. Yeh I know what a chicken sht item. But its gotta work.
Thanks.

Well I just went out and checked and I put it in neutral and the car doesn't move back that much at all it just creaks a little. How much is a good ballpark range on how much a parking brake would go for?

Well if what your saying is the calipers are semi locked up then you will have to drive the pistons back in with plyers or somthing

the rear calipers cant be puched in with a C clamp, you have to screw them in. The Square is too small so you gotta use plyers

So today after schoolI went and looked to see more clearly what was wrong with the parking brake and I lifted it up so I could see underneath it and the bolt that holds the brake in place broke...well idk if it broke but I do know that the steel around it broke off...Is there any easy fix for this?
