I just bought some mobil 1 and its going in tommorrow afternoon. As well as an OEM Motorcraft filter. I'm a cheapo, but hey, if it's OEM it can't be too bad. Plus I forked over enough for the Mobil 1.

Every time I've changed my oil I can feel it run smoother. I noticed a larger difference when I installed synth blend last time, and now I'm going top of the line full synthetic.

I notice that "fresh feeling" right after I change my oil too (Mobil 1 every time, thinking about Royal Purple...) but it doesn't last. I'm not about to drop the coin to change my oil every 1000 miles either.

Like he said. If you are changing your synthetic oil every 1000 miles, then you are a waster of good oil.

john, what I mean is that period right after the oil change where the engine runs noticeably smoother and quieter and seems to also run stronger only lasts about 1000 miles or so. After that it kind of starts to feel a little rough again, but like baddog said, the oil is still plenty good after that. I use Mobil 1 and change every 5000 miles. Some people say that Mobil 1 or other synthetics are fine for longer intervals, but every tech I've ever known has said, "No more than 5000 miles, I don't care what Mercedes/BMW/Volkswagen says."

I've brought that up to every tech I've ever known, and none of them recommended going that long between oil changes. The foreman for the Mercedes shop I used to work in, a tech with 23 years of experience, said he still changed the oil in every single one of his vehicles every 3000 miles whether they ran synthetic oil or not. If you run regular oil, 3000, if you run synthetic, 5000. You are probably good for a little longer, but I don't push it.
