Default Exhaust Manifold Broke

I'm new to the forum. Not sure if this where to post questions.

My wife's stock '00 V6 mustang had had a slight exhaust leak ont he passenger side dfor some time. The other day I got in it to drive across town and it appears to have opened up completely.

When I run the car and put my hand down that side, it feels like it is coming from the back exhaust port where the tube meets the rest of the manifold. I have a couple questions related to this.

I noticed that autozone sells Dorman Manifold replacements for these car's. Looks to be stock replacement http://www.autozone.com/R,APP862595/...ductDetail.htm

Where this is the one side, would I just want to replace the one side?

Would BBK's be better? I know I would have to replace both sides with this option. Do they mount to the stock exhaust? Will I have to do something with the EGR to get them to fit in? http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-sh...rs-9904v6.html

Where this isnt on the flange, should I just weld the seam back together with my MIG?

Any help or advice here is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't try to repair it, it will probably just open up again. Something like that, once its cracked, it will probably just find a way to crack again.

Don't buy parts from autozone. Either go OEM or performance. I've bought supposed exact replacements of stuff at autozone, like a mirror glass, and little thing like that, and they never fit, just get OEM or some Longtubes and be done with it. Of course, since its your wifes car, I doubt she'll want longtubes, so just get some decent OEM headers and call it a day.

I agree, long-pipes probably arent an option. This is the family car, and is used frequently. She picked the V6 new, but 4 years or so later, she sometimes wished she'd picked the V8.

Do the shorty performance headers add anything in terms of performance to the car.

I've found Headman , BBK , JBA shorty headers that almost look like they'd mount into the same spot, but would want to make sure they bolt up the stock exhaust. If I'm going to have to wait for something to be shipped in, I'd prefer to make the right choice Stock vs aftermarket. While I'm doing it, if get mild performance gain, Thumbs-up.

If you want a small performance gain get the Mac Long Tubes.
If you want replacements and not to have to worry about them cracking again get the BBK shorties.

Best price I found for BBKs was at Summit $269.95. Any other vendors I should look at?

What are the differences between BBK and Headman shorties?

I just did the 94-98 swap last night. Definitly worth the 25 bucks.

I Couldnt find any V6 mustangs at the 8 of the wrecking yards I talked to in town, so, I started calling around. Ford wanted $230 just for the right side. The manifold on mine broke int he same place as yours. I thought it was on the back tube, but after further inspection it was where the flange mounted to the header.

I ended up ordering the BBK's from Jegs. Jegs had the free 2-day shipping and were at the lowest price at 269. They should be here tomorrow.
