engine swap
i have a 1983 mustang gl and i have had it about a year now and the 3.8 with a 2 barrel motorcraft carb has plenty of power stock but im a v8 person and i wasn wondering if any v8s would swap over easy perferably fuel injection
a 5.0 will go in fairly easily but you would need quite a bit of stuff like engine, radiator, wireing harness ECU GT guage cluster ands beef up that 7.5 rear with 3.73 gears and a detroit truetracor swap in an 8.8 all in all you looking to spend $3000 on the swap. having a donor car like a nice 89 GT would make things alot easier.
you may need to swap trans too. if you have a C5 it could probably be built up to C4 specs to hold the V8 and it would be wise anyways as V6 trans internals were weaker than the V8 trans too. the bellhousings are the same 3.8 to 5.0.
or you could build your 3.8. www.moranav6racing.com has cams,headers,4bbl intakes ported heads, pistons for your year 3.8 and it wouldn't be hard to get 220-240rwhp out of your 3.8 which is more than a stock 5.0 puts out

Where are you located - I'm in Minnesota.
I've got a 5.0L I'd trade you for a 3.8L with a carb. I've been lookingfor one. Mymotor is in a 1990LX right now, runsvery strong with no issues at all. I'd toss in everything you'd need to swap it in if it would work out.

I just sent you a PM. If you want to sell the 3.8L motor, let me know.
And to answer your question, the 5.0L for most other applications drops right in. I know some had different oil pans, so you might have to swap that to a mustang pan prior to dropping the new motor in.
