Default No Heat!!!

My wife has a 2000 6 bang stang. It will not turn the cooling fan off when running. I have a winter front on it and still nothing. It was looked at by Ford, and they informed her that the fan runs non-stop if the heater is set to defrost. It is only about -5 today, (Approx 22 farenheight), and it blows COLD air. The temperature here can plummet to -45 (-49 F) and the car will be undriveable. Is there a simple fix? I have already changed the t-stat and like I said, boarded the radiator. I am ready to purchase a new elec. cooling fan that runs its own e-stat, but would rather save the 200 bucks and fix the problem. Please help!

You could wire up a cutoff switch for alot cheaper. If it's your engine that won't heat up. If your not getting any heat in your car it may be your heater core is clogged or for some reason (could be the switch) your air ducting door is not opening to run air past your heater core.

Please understand that I do know more than most when it comes to mechanics. The heater core is returning coolant at the same temperature as it is sending it. The problem lies not in the heater itself but in the inability of the engine to build heat. The question that I trully need answering is, "Does the coolaning fan, on the radiator, always run when the cab controller is set to defrost/floor-defrost as Ford service explained to my wife. I know others do not have the problem of running cold as the're driving around in t-shirts, not parka's! What kind of cut off switch would you suggest?

A simple two pole (on/ off) switch to break the cooling fans ground wire. You could wire it in and put the switch inside with your wife. Then you could turn off the fan anytime you wanted. This could be picked up at local parts store or Radio Shack for around 20 bucks tops including wire and connectors. Yes the fan may run on the defrost setting or any setting except for vent. Let me explain that a little. The fan is set up to power on anytime there might be an air conditioning load. The air conditioner provides assist when your cpu deems necessary at all settings except vent therefore the fan could run at those settings. Since it is so cold where you are you may try just disconnecting your a/c low pressure switch electrical connector, witch would disable the whole function. Then the fan would only turn on when it (the CPU) sensed a high coolant temperature. I would probably try this first because it's alot easier. Do you use a block heater? This might help as well.

The A/C explanation is what I needed, thank you. The car actually sits in a heated garage over night, but has to endure the cold of the day while she's at work. And to answer the obvious, yes it's also cold on her drive to work, it just starts out a little warmer. BTW where would I find the low pressure switch. I really have not spent much time with knowledgeing myself with a/c components, as I couldn't do much to repair them anyway.

Not a hundred percent sure on your model but on most fords I've touched they are on the passengers side near the fire wall. Usually Violet and Dark Blue/ Yellow wires coming out.

I left the cardboard there all summer. That was the only way to build heat in the cool of the night. I am going to try to disconnect the a/c switch today, and thank you for your suggestions.

Disconnecting the low pressure switch made all the difference!!!! The cooling fan shuts off and the car actually builds heat and the gauge leaves cold!!! Thanks sooooo much.
