could be a crack in the exh manifold causing the tick. they are known to crack

or a lifter sticking, which is less common

Went to the mechanic to have the tick checked out. Is a small crack in the drivers side manifold. This means I will be buying a new one. Should I replace both sides? Are there performance manifolds? Which one should I buy?

mines has a tick too, but it goes away after 30 sec. So would that be the manifold too?

is that still as bad or, and dose it effect proformace and gas?

He said that all it means is that air is seeping in through the manifold. He also said it's no emergency but I do want to replace it before it developes worse. If you have that same ch-ch-ch-ch-ch sound then my guess would be that your manifold has a crack too. But someone else told me that a tick could also be caused from a delayed fireing with the gasoline and that you could use a higher octane to fix that problem.

If it goes away after 30 secs when the engine is cold, it could be oil flow to the valve lifters , it can take a while to get flow up top of the engine .What oil are you running ? (viscosity).

well the thing is the exhaust guy told me its my manifold and told me not to worry about it if it gose away.

my uncle who has his own shop and is a mecanic told me its the oil rising, so i just sided with him.

i run 5w-20 i live in the bay area so it dosent get that cold, so no need for thicker oil(i think)

I know for my 3.8L the factory says 5w 30 so thats what I run. I have used synthetic castrol since I can remember and I love it. Enjoy!
