im not talking about the normal mustang loudness. it is at least twice as loud now.
my pump went out about a week ago and i had no money to buy a new one. so we took all the fluid out and replaced it and then it still didnt work.i needed to drive to work one day so i drove with no power steering. then when i got to work is started work and worked fine for like 2 days then one morning i went out started it and made a load almost like whining noise. and sometime is seems to puslate whne i turn a corner but it still works. and say im stopped and i turn my wheel is sounds like a lightsaber almost. and is conntiosly whines when i drive and get loud with the rpms. i drive a 96 v6

check fluid level. these things have to work the air out of the system.

if that is all done and still noisy, well then time to replace. they are not designed or built to be repaired at home with the usual home tools.

well i was thinking it was the fuild levels and possible air. cause i didnt fill it my self. and i also here you should fill all fuilds besides oil with the car runnig. also i think my fuild got fill to the full hot line while cold. casue i get fuild coming out of the over flow hole.

Try some lucas power steering fluid it is not a solution but it might give you a bit more time before it goes completely. My mustang had a little bit of noise coming from power steering but lucas oil fixed it for now.

Your pump is nearly dead dude, save your pennies !! Maybe try a wreckers yard?

He posted this up in another section and I tried to understand him but he kept not making any sense. I tried to tell him he needed a new pump but then he told me it was working again so I got confused.

Noise and the 'on again, off again' feeling in a PS pump that has been drained and refilled could be due to air stuck in the system.

With most Ford PS systems you have to draw a vacuum on the PS pump in order to remove all of the air in the system. They make a pump (looks like a ***** pump) that is put over the mouth of the PS resivoir and used to pull a vacuum on the PS system with the car running.

I can't remember where I found the complete article but this explains the procedure...

BLEEDING
If air bubbles are present in the power steering fluid, bleed the system by performing the following:
[*]
Fill the reservoir to the proper level. [*]
Operate the engine until the fluid reaches normal operating temperature of 165-175°F (74-79°C). [*]
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, then all the way to the right several times. Do not hold the steering wheel in the far left or far right position stops. [*]
Check the fluid level and recheck the fluid for the presence of trapped air. If it is apparent that air is still in the system, fabricate or obtain a vacuum tester and purge the system as follows:
[*]
Remove the pump dipstick cap assembly. [*]
Check and fill the pump reservoir with fluid to the COLD FULL mark on the dipstick. [*]
Disconnect the ignition wire, then raise the front of the vehicle and support safely. [*]
Crank the engine with the starter and check the fluid level. Do not turn the steering wheel at this time. [*]
Fill the pump reservoir to the COLD FULL mark on the dipstick. Crank the engine with the starter while cycling the steering wheel lock-to-lock. Check the fluid level. [*]
Tightly insert a suitable size rubber stopper and air evacuator pump into the reservoir fill neck. Connect the ignition coil wire. [*]
With the engine idling, apply a 15 in. Hg (51 kPa) vacuum to the reservoir for 3 minutes. As air is purged from the system, the vacuum will drop off. Maintain the vacuum on the system as required throughout the 3 minutes. [*]
Remove the vacuum source. Fill the reservoir to the COLD FULL mark on the dipstick. [*]
With the engine idling, reapply 15 in. Hg (51 kPa) vacuum source to the reservoir. Slowly cycle the steering wheel to lock-to-lock stops for approximately 5 minutes. Do not hold the steering wheel at the stops during cycling. Maintain the vacuum as required. [*]
Release the vacuum and disconnect the vacuum source. Add fluid as required[/ol][/ol]
Eitherway, the PS pumps in the mustangs are noisey to begin with.

If you keep having to top up the fluid ,you probably have a leak somewhere. Have you checked your fluid lines? The rubber pressure line can split & you will loose fluid & then air gets in the system & pump will start growling. You need someone to turn the steering wheel with the engine running, while you look for leaks. You could also put cardboard under the car but it's better if you can see where it comes from.
