Default What difference does an 8.8 make

Me agian with another stupid question. Thanks to all those who reply, i do appreciate it.

Ihave a 2007 V6I think it comes with a 7.5 rear end. I don't know what this means.

1 What does a 7.5 rear end mean
2What will i get out of a 8.8
3 What will it take to put one on
4Will i have to change the gears to 3:55, 3:75, or 4:10

Thanks again.

used gears from MPSautosalvage.com are $50 (4.10s,) and will make it faster off the line and lower your top speed from like 210 to 170-----not like you have the power or place to be going that fast anyways

drivetrainspecialists.com has a detroit true trac for $420

an 8.8 rear won't make your car any faster than the stock 7.5. the only difference is they come with a T-lok stock. then 7.5 has a open differential (1 wheel peel)

MPS usually doesn't have used 4.10's in stock for the 7.5 but they sometimes have them. they do have 3.73's and 3.45's for the 7.5.

an 8.8 for your year will be expensive. it would be cheaper to add in a detroit truetrac to your rear and a set of 3.73's or 4.10's. total cost about $600 to build up the 7.5. you may not be able to find the whole GT 8.8 rear for your year car for under that

^ What he said. you shouldnt spend the time/money(especially for the S197s) on an 8.8 rear until you are getting ready to break through the 450rwhp mark.

There are more companies that make parts for the 8.8 To swap them out is simple, take off the upper and lower control arms, driveshaft, and brakes/wheels, then swap them. It took me about 3 hours to swap mine in.

Here are some rear-end kits. I use this site to buy all of my stuff, they are pretty helpful. They always respond to my e-mails within a day and they have decent priced stuff.

Hell if they will[:'(] a 8.8 will only hold up to more power. If you want to take off faster, if ur doing mostly city driving. use 4.10's, if ur gonna do interstate driving. 3.73's. u can also get a 2 speed rearend and custom fab it, with a 3.08 gear and a 4.10 gear
