Can u really use a 4.2 crack in a 3.8? If so what would u need for a 2001 3.8 because i have a 4.2 motor with bad heads.

Well then switch the 3.8l heads to the 4.2L How do you know the heads are bad?

Do a search, this topic has been brought up many a time. Here is what you need for the 94-98 models however, they are the only ones that i have off hand. I know that lilRoush has posted from 94 up through 04 in the past. these are for if you are going to be swapping in a 4.2 block. If you plan on puting just the crank into the 3.8 than all you need is the crank if you have 96+ model as the internals are the same. Otherwise you need new internals. I may be forgetting a couple things but I believe thats all there is too it. (correct me if im wrong guys!)

94-98 Single port heads

- 4.2 shortblock
- Single port heads/fuel rail/intake
- Mustang 3.8 water pump
- Auto trans = 4.2 or 01-up flexplate
- 5spd = 01-up or rebalanced 3.8 (0 or neutral) flywheel and a pilot bearing
- Re-use your stock cam position sensor
- 01-up 3.8 oil pan
- 01-up 3.8 oil pick-up tube and screen
- 4.2 damper or 01-up 3.8 damper (use the 01 pulley for blower cars)
- Re-use the stock 3.8 oil pressure sender and tube
- Re-use the Mustang headers
- You can use the 4.2 or 3.8 dipstick. Just keep track of where 5 qts puts the mark when refilling with oil.

94-98 Split port heads

*** You will need to perform all the mods required for a split port conversion plus these steps for the 4.2 (see pbmilan or V6sprout for the video) ***

- 4.2 shortblock or longblock
- You can use the 4.2 heads
- Mustang upper and lower intake
- Custom return style fuel rail (VMP has them)
- Mustang 3.8 water pump

My guess would be the OP has no idea what a crank looks like and if he does he has no idea how to dig into an engine to do a crank swap and all of the other little **** that is needed to do the swap.

Why don't the Newb's use the Search function? It won't bite I promise. This is getting real old with 2-4 threads aboutM112/M90 or split-port swap/4.2L swap posts everyday...

ohh boy
3.8 to 4.2L heads to bad its the same ****. 4.2L is just bored over (bigger cylinder) you can easily use the 3.8L heads infact that is what everyone uses when they mod or get a 4.2L

secondly
you cannot gap piston rings
they seal
there is no adjusting that
you want them to seal and you'd better break your engine in the right way

next to anyone SERIOUS about 4.2L build forged or not w/e
PM me
im currently offering a good deal to those who i choose or will allow on a building the motor
ive built a few engines already and with the short block, bearings, rings and rotating assembly in front of me i'll throw it together for $150 and a full long block for $250
everything torque to specs of course as well as very precise measurements on pistons. placing rings on, lubing cylinders, hexing, honing, placing pistons, checking the crank for wear etc...

a normal shop will easily charge $1k or more to build you a block

Proper Ring Gap Assures proper combution seal. You filer the ring down. You build engines??? Holy ****.....

Is a 4.2L Bored over? Im pretty sure it is just a bigger stroke... But hey, who's to say your wrong?
