Default Engine revs too high!!!!

Hello Eveybody! I have a question...I have a 2001 Ford Mustang V-6 I have had her since she wasnew. I have always had an idling problem, though; just recently when I have the clutch in, whether stopping or changing gears ....the engine revs on it own. My gas mileage has dropped tremendously and I worried because it causes the clutch to slip changing gears. After I have stopped for about 1 minute it drops down to a normal idle. Occassionally drops too low for a moment like it wants to stall but then goes back to a normal idle until I take off. Then the entire process starts all over with the high reving. Does anyone have a clue what could be causing this?

check your throttle body, throttle cable, and idle air controller. most common culprits of high idle, especially if it kind of drops off after sitting for a bit.

I vote checkfor the IAC. It seems like a lot of people have been having idlingproblems lately. I don't think people believe that you have to do a little extra maintenance in the winter.
