Default rear end

ok so i still have the stock rear end in my 2000 sixxer
however im wantin to swap it out and throw in a 8.8 in gt rear end
so wut im wondering is if ne of u guys kno where i could get one for pretty cheap or if u just kno where one is, let me kno
and yes i already kno rather than doin a whole new rear end i could just do a differential swap
but id rather just do a rear end swap, dk y, just feel like it haha
so also is there ne thin else, like would i have to get a new driveshaft to match the rear end or is the stock one fine still or wut??
thanks guys

For the 2000 it's best to go with the 99-04's because other years are different lengths and you'd have to have wheel spacers and such and some may have drum brakes if you get even older. Everything should match however I hear that one hole in a bracket needs to be enlarged. I'm planning on doing this swap soon, I have the rear end sitting in my garage, just need to seal up the pumpkin and pick up some friction modifier.

i am always ready to help but i have to be able to read the post without taking 10 miuntes to get through txt style typing.

try you local junkyards.

Rittenours auto salvage here in Ellsworth pa had an 8.8 from a 95 for i think about $350 but i know that rear was beat on.

and IMO and experience putting a detroit truetrac into your 7.5 is a much better choice than throwing in an 8.8 from a junkyard.

the junkyard 8.8 mave have damage that can easily go un-noticed and unless you find a 99+ GT rear or pre 99 cobra 8.8 they will have different ratios so you will either have to buy an xcal tuner to correct the speedo for the 8.8's different ration gears ($400) or get a set of 8.8 3.27's to put in the 8.8.

say you have to get gears so that another $200 added to the cost then $75 for an install kit then $200 minimum to install them and still have a used t-lok in it that may have worn out clutches $100 for a t-lok rebuild kit. now that uses 8.8 is costing $1000 to only have a heavierrear that is weaker than a detroit truetrac in the 7.5 that you could have paid $600 for the truetrac and install.

finding a low mileage good condition GT rear the same year as yours with the same ratio for cheap is near impossible.

this is my advise. just get the truetrac and forget about the 8.8.
if you think the 8.8 t-lok is stronger than this thing then your sorrily mistaken

Alright. Where could I get the Detroit Truetrac at? And is there anything else I would have to get for it, like new gears?

How much money are you looking to spend honestly? It's the internet so for all i know you could be HRH Prince Charles, but the txt typing makes me think 17yr old kid working part-time at pizza hut. Replacing a 7.5 with a 8.8 on a stock 3.8 isn't the best example of money well spent, a 7.5 will hold up to what 250-300 rwhp, are you going to go that far? Consider the t-loc cost, then gears (doesn't make sense to put in a posi without changing the gearing), installation kit, installation labour (get someone to do it), then getting your speedo recalibrated it all adds up pretty quick.
