Default Difference in power

I have a 2000 mustang and was driving my friends 2004 Conv. mustang and when i mashed the gas it didnt' seem to take off like mine. I bought mine used and was wonder if there was anything added to give it power. It doesn't shut off it just hits the rubber thing after 120 and keeps going. If i mash on the gas the rmp's shoot over to 5 and the car will start to fishtail and then catch traction. Do they all do this?

You could have had a gear swap, but other than that any other mods are noticible. The best way to tell if you have a gear swap is to jack up your rear end, spin your tire one time and count the driveshaft rotations. It should be around 3.27 times if it's stock, anymore and there would have been gear/rear end work done. Also keep in mind that convertables are around 200lbs heavier than coupes. Another thing to keep in mind is engine/drivetrain wear and maintenace. A car with good maintenance and little engine/drivetrain wear, is going to be faster than a car with more wear and less maintenace. Tune ups can also go a long way. A car with newer plugs/wires/fluids will be faster, sometime significantly vs. a car with old worn plugs and fluids.

Please don't drive 120+ - you car isn't made for it.

That being said, if your needle goes past 118, your car has been modified. I'd guess gears and a hand held tuner to adjust for them and remove your speed limiter.

I have had my 98 past 120 without being limited. Everything was stock on it then.

I call BS, my old 98 went 112 MPH and pegged out. After doing some tuning, and a few mods, it burried past 120, probably around 124ish, wouldn't of went much faster though, but still 92-98s couldn't go faster than 112, Ford ECUs wouldn't allow it without some kind of modification done to it.

Well IDK what to tell ya. It may have been more like 115 or somethin but Ihad a littlelack in powerbut nolimiter. The only vehicle I have had that was limited was my 04 F150 and it stopped at 98 and was supposed to be 100. I know the speedo isn't off either bc I run past radars 2-3 times a day going on post to work.

OP Your car must have been creeping after it got to 120. lol I couldn't see it topping out much higher than 120.

I got my car up to 116ish and it has no mods done to take the limiter off. I don't think the speedo was off when I did it either. I was on the stock 15's. Who knows? lol
