As you all probably know, to do pretty much anything to the 05-08 mustangs, you have to have a programmer. I want to add a CIA to it, but dont have the money for the programmer too. What would happen if i didnt have a programmer and just added the CIA?

I'm pretty sure you can just put the CAI on, and then take the negative battery cable off for 30 minutes so the computer resets. You can pump the breaks to get rid of any extra charge; you'll feel the break pedal getting harder to press down each time you do this. Then put the cable back on and you're done.

So I'm lost. . . .

Anyway the 05+ pretty much needs a tune for everything as you've already stated. GET the tuner first, then buy the CAI. You'll be much happier

That is what I read in a thread.

The guy said, and I quote...

"Eli:  It is recommended to reset your on-board computer after modifications to your intake, exhaust or engine.  It will allow the computer to recalibrate the changes and prevent the CHECK ENGINE light."

and in the same thread....

"Unplug your battery (negative cable) after any airflow mods.  I always do it overnight (laziness?  ;D ) but Ive heard 30 minutes is good too.  I think it was SteveC who suggested unplugging the battery and pumping the brakes a few times (to drain the ECU of any residual charge) and then reconnecting."

Here is the link to the thread....

Soooooo, IF I'm wrong please tell me so....

Well, you don't need to reset the computer for stupid little mods like that. Also, using the battery to reset the computer, the easiest thing to do is disconnect both terminals and touch them together a few times. Instant ECU reset.

And I have absolutely no ****ing clue what the **** the brakes have to do with any of this.

Sounds more like the recipe for fried ecu stew.

Anyway the 05, NEEDS a tune for everything almost /end.

pumping the brakes gets rid of any remaining electric charge in the system, by flashing your brake lights. like if your battery is dead, youll get a small -click- and a light flicker before you realize its dead, and then when you try to crank it again, you get no flicker, no click. thats the theory, anyway. for small mods, resetting the ecu isnt really all that necessary, but it wont hurt either...except having to reset all of your radio presets and levels.

It's actually pretty safe. Sure it's not the recomended service procedure or anything, but for a flat rate mechanic, we don't waste time like that.

From what I have read is that the AFR gets really screwed up and can cause problems soon after from fouled plugs to detonation and failure.

There was one aftermarket intake that did not require a tune. Its listed in either the MM&FF or 5.0 magazine for January. It was by Big daddy or something like that.

AHA!!! I found it, here is the install. http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...ake/index.html

That will answer everything for you, and thats the only one of its kind that I know of.
