Personally, I'd take it straight to the muff shop and have them repair any cracked welds. It might be a muff or a cat rusted through too. Just have it looked at and take it from there. DON'T use duct tape!!!!!!!! Duct tape can burn, but if your in a financial pinch for a while, they do make a muff tape that does work, but it is temporary. Good luck BG.

Actually on 99+ mustang v6's its very common thing that the right exhaust manifold leaks where it meets the main pipe. It is listed on all data as something to look out for when an 99+ v6 comes into the shop.

I believe it Zach. If you look under a V6, the cats are always scraped up. And for some reason they only have a dampener on the pass side if I remember right. So that must mean there is alot of vibration on that side.

My wife's 2001 Convert's exhaust let loose on her way home from work yesterday.

The car sits way too low to drive up on ramps and I haven't put it on a hoist so I can look from underneath, but, the noise sounds like it is coming from the area where the manifold meets the y-pipe connection. My questions is; is there some sort of "donut gasket" like the cars had years ago? Or is it a flange connection that possibly needs to be tightened?

Either way I need to do something soon , as the car sounds like a junker getting ready for a demolition derby!

Well the verdict is in....I have a cracked exhaust manifold on the right side. I"ve already tracked a new one down.

Does anyone have any experience swapping these things? I do 95% of my own repairs, but if this is a b*tch to do, I'll pay someone else to do it.

it's not hard at all, do you have power tools? You can swap that baby out in 30 minutes if you have power tools. It's not hard at all, also those new craftsman reversible wrenches work wonders too

Yes, I have a very extensive assortment of tools as I do a lot of repair jobs "on the side for cash".

I posted my question yesterday right after I got the news for the exhaust repair shop and before I had a chance to get home and look at my "Factory Service" manual. It doesn't look like a hard job at all.

Looks like a couple hours of my time and 6-pack of Bud should take care of it!
