Cam help
On a stock car or just bolt onsit won't do THAT much. Now if you're going F/I, nitrous, a built motor, Ported and polished upper, lower and headsyou would get a great gain froma cam. Cams are made for different applications such as the ones listed above. I'd talk to RPM, SSM, or Morana to get a cam spec'd for your application. Then just order it from comp cams lol. Shop around, but if you dont have any of the above it wouldn't be the wisest choice to get a cam first. Also with putting in a new cam your going to need the right valve springs and maybe different length push rods. You'll also need a tune to get things running right in the end. Not just a mail order tune either. What im doing... ive got close to full bolt-ons(Underdrive pulley, tune, catback exhaust etc etc.) Tlock and 3.73's being put in within 2-3 weeks, ported and polished lower intake manifold and a windstar upper intake manifold. At some point this summer im going to install a cam and at the same time port and polish the heads so ill have a nice, much less restrictive intake and exhaust system to compliment the cam so it can be used to its potential. Also its a better idea to do the install yourself... a shop will charge upwards of 800-1000 to install a cam... ONLY if you have experience with working on motors, are organized about it, have the proper tools and a HAYNES manual. Or just a really knowlegable friend works too lol. Anywyas goodluck
Oh and gains vary... but port and polished upper, lower, heads and camswap as well as a cold air intake and an exhaust system should bring you to around the GTs hpand more... as far as new edge sixers go i dont know aboutsingleports. This also varies on the aggressiveness of the cam and the quality of the port and polish job as well as the supporting mods. There is alot that goes into it and has an affect on the power you're going to be making in the end.
