plastic welding????/cowl grille repair
hello all. I'm afraid my 9 year old, cracked up, faded cowl vent cover has to go. Now, for some reason these plastic jewels are 200+ bucks. So, I started looking for a repair. A guy told me that the mac/maybe snap on tool truck has this new "plastic welding" procedure that they are doing. he said they use sticks just like welding and a gun. anyone heard of this and how well does it work/cost? as a side note, does anyone know if the 94-98 cowl vents fit ours? I always thought the cobra ones from those years look better. any info would be appreciated. thx.
yes there is such a thing as plastic welding but it melts the plastic and globs it on and unless your going to bondo/FG it it will be rough and odd looking no matter how much sand and paint you use try to find one at a junk yard and i dont think the earlier ones will fit but im not 100%
im needing one too...mine broke about 6 months ago and i look at 50resto and they were 149.99....i was like thats freakin crazy i aint paying 150 bucks for that.....now they are 249
their are commercial plastic welds i cant remember the name but it looks like 2 syringes you squeese the 2 chems out and mix the 2 and apply and let it sit and that **** is hard as a rock
and you can also do it the back yard way iv seen someone use a butane lighter or small butane torch and plastic weed wacker string and you heet the plastic up slowly and feed the string in just like your brazing or tig welding

the problem with scrap yards is that the things are such pos they almost always brake when a car is wrecked. i got one for 100 not too long ago brand new from a ford dealer. watch for them on differnet forums and ebay. also, if you wanted to fix it you could buy some plastic epoxy and glue the thing all back together then sand the whole thing down and paint it the same color as your car. judgin by your aviator pic im guesing your car is black, ive seen it on a black car and it looked great.
