Default '02 lightning engine swap! posible?

okay so my uncle unfortunetly wrecked his 02 ford lightning which is a 5.4 s/c'd monster of a truck. he got t boned in bettween were the cab is and the truck bed, but missed him luckily. so everything was totalled except the engine and himself of course. he asked me if i wanted to buy the engine off him for a low cost, i told him id think about it. now my question is, would this engine swap intto my 02 mustang? im making this my project car. so time and money arent an option. just askin if its posible.

With enough time and money, anything is possible. Usually, I don't support an engine swap, but, if you can get the engine and everything else you can salvage (computer, injectors, wiring, etc.) for under 1.5K, I say go for it. It won't be easy or cheap. You'll need alot of custom fabrication work to get the engine to fit in properly and to find headers that will work. You'll need a custom hood for sure, and you'll have to beef up the front suspension, tranny, rearend, etc.

But if its going to be a project...why not, if you can get the engine cheap.

people have done 5.4 swaps before. ill try to find a link. i think you can use a lot of parts from a 4.6 mustang to help make the whole thing work.

this should help a little.

you have to change engine mounts, and possibly have to shave some firewall and inner fender. and most likely move quite a few things around. you will have trouble getting water pump clearance but ya it CAN BE DONE!

man i can wait if this thing actually gets done. ill keep the same 3.8 mustang badges on it of course to show what it used to be. but i think people will know that my car is probably gunna be fast with half the engine stickin up out from the hood.

An L engine with the L m112 looks retarded in a mustang. It sticks up about 10" from the hood. It's been done.

The Cobra R 5.4 used a completely different K-member and all sorts of special stuff just to wedge it in, and unless you truly desire it for the mere reason of saying you have it, it's not worth it.

5.4's are essentially 4.6's the block is just taller, both mod motors. people swap them in all the time...

ya and the only way to keep it looking somewhat clean and smooth is to buy a hood with a huge cowl and chop it up some to make it seem as if it wasnt jumping out of your hood.
