It feels like the engine isnt getting the air it needs to ignite right away, takes a second or two until the engine quits knocking. It is on the verge of dieing when it does this. It does it maybe every one in ten starts.

i would say it sounds like you forgot to connect something. double check all your connectios and see if you have something not connected. if you're all good there you might have some IAC valve issues I would tend to think. The more info you provide us the better. But it kinda sounds like a vaccum leak to me.

Thats what i was thinking too, thats why i asked what kinda CAI...or if it was home made.
because there is only one hose that connected to my CAI and it was off the valve covers.

or mass air meter....is it still hooked up? or on properly? not too many things that can be wrong with a CAI install

2000 Mustang v6, ebay CAI, everything is hooked up fine....it only started doing this after I installed the CAI. There were three connection into my CAI one of which was the Mass Air Meter one was the air temp sensor and the other hooked into the actual block which im not too sure of its name....but I fabricated it to slide into the rubber cupling since it would not reach the original spot for it to enter the pipe. This connection is all sealed up and the only thing Im thinking might be the reason is b/c it does not angle towards the air flow, just kind of sticking in their.

Perhaps something is loose if it does it 1 out of 10 times. Mabey after driving it shakes something loose & driving it more puts it back in place... Just a thought.
